Hello from Alexis
Superhost · 7 years hostingThe Darling A-frame was custom built from an 1800s barn and cedar harvested right here on our property. Big windows, a wood stove, a glimpse of Burke Mountain through the trees, and the Kingdom Trails at the end of the driveway.
Some mornings there's a moose in the field. Some mornings it's just the field. Both are good mornings.
The bones
Almost every piece of this place has a history. The timber is from an 1800s barn. The cedar grew on our land. Most of what's inside was found around the Kingdom, one piece at a time.
Ask about anything. We'll probably tell you more than you wanted to know.
Inside
The main floor is open: a kitchen with a ZLINE stove, a living room with a wood stove and a vintage stereo, and a queen bedroom with big picture windows. Up the spiral stairs, a king bed in the open loft and a door to the roof deck. Down them, the game room.
Fair warning: the spiral stair is the only way up and down. Worth thinking about before you book.
Tour the houseDownstairs
A 1980s jukebox loaded with original 45s. A 1960s foosball table, Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, so pick a side. Pac-Man and Galaga. A Smart TV. A record player and a stack of the classics.
There's a CD player too. Yes, really.
Outside
Direct access to the Kingdom Trails and the VAST network via Culvert Cut and Hog Back. A fire pit and an old outdoor wood stove, firewood included. A three-season outdoor shower. A roof deck off the loft that faces the sunset.
And a lockable shed, so the bikes and skis sleep inside too.

Good to know
The spiral staircase is open from the main floor and is the only way to the loft and the lower level.
The driveway is plowed all winter, but bring a 4WD or AWD vehicle.
The outdoor shower is closed in winter and whenever it's below freezing.

Occasionally there's a fire ban in April or May. If so, the fire pit is off, and we'll tell you ahead of time.
Commercial photography is permitted with prior approval.
Location
Lyndon, Vermont, in the Northeast Kingdom. East Burke is just around the corner.
Out the door
You're on 100 miles of trail before you've finished your coffee. The property has direct access to the Kingdom Trails and the VAST network through Culvert Cut and Hog Back. Mountain bike it, fat bike it, snowshoe it, ski it.
The exact address comes with your booking. Wildlife sightings in our field so far: deer, moose, bear, and fox.
When to come
Biking season on the Kingdom Trails, outdoor shower, fire pit nights, sunsets from the roof deck.
Trails stay open for mountain biking until around October 31. Wood stove weather starts.
Trails reopen for fat biking when conditions allow. Burke and Dashney nearby. Driveway plowed, 4WD or AWD recommended.
Trails close for the thaw and usually reopen in mid-May. Quiet, slow, and good for reading.

“Honestly one of the coolest places we've stayed. The A-frame is so cozy, and the whole place has this great character, like everything in it has a story. Alexis is super cool and so easy to deal with. Would 100% come back!”
“It was everything we needed. The home is exactly as you see it and if you are looking for that feeling, this place is it. The attention to details, the intention, and the abundance of practical things in the home for when you have that ‘I wish I brought this to the trip’ moment - they probably have what you are missing. The record selection was extremely impressive. We had much fun and time well needed away from everything else! Highly recommend, and hopefully we get to come back.”
“We had a wonderful time and this house is a gem. So grateful for the weekend away and LOVED everything about the house. It is exactly how I would style it. We had such a great time there. The record player was such a great touch and of course loved the Ms Pac-man game. We will for sure be back. It was a weekend of relaxing, spending time together and recouping from a very busy summer.”
“The Darling A Frame was wonderful. Both the property and surroundings were beautiful. Host was extremely helpful. We definitely plan on returning in the future. Thanks again for the lovely stay!”
“Amazing stay at the Darling A, so relaxing felt like we were in our own exquisite private retreat. Loved biking up to road right to the trails and being close to everything in town as well.”

Your host
The Darling A-frame sits on our land in Lyndon, built with barn wood and our own cedar and filled with things we found around the Kingdom. I've been hosting here for seven years, and I still get a kick out of hearing who picked Barcelona at the foosball table.
